Q: Is it a real candle flame?
A: No. It is an LED flame, driven by electronic circuitry, which is indistinguishable from a wax candle's flame. LED flames offer a safe, continuous flame.
Q: How the candles are powered?
A: Most of the candles are powered by standard size “D” batteries or you have the option to buy an AC adapter. The Remembrance Candles do not need batteries.
Q: How many batteries the Sentinel® candles use?
A: Sentinel® Tribute™ candle requires at least one size “D” battery to operate but it can accommodate up to 5 D size batteries at once for longer use. Sentinel® Legacy™ candle requires at least two size “D” batteries to work, but can accommodate up to 10 size “D” batteries for longer use. Remembrance™ candles use built-in rechargeable batteries. With the included power supply the batteries can be recharged or, the candle can be plugged into the AC wall outlet permanently to light continuously. Its power consumption is equivalent to a nightlight's power usage.
Q: How long will they last?
A: The Tribute™ candle with 5 batteries will light for a little less than 4 months, while the Legacy™ with 10 batteries will light for approximately 6 months. The actual candle flame (LED light) will last for 100,000 hours, the equivalent of 11 ½ years. The fully charged Remembrance™ candle will light continuously for 24 hours. Plugged into AC wall outlet, Remembrance™ candle will continuously light for 10-11 years.
Q: Are these candles cost effective?
A: The Smartlite Legacy™ and Tribute™ candles are definitely cost effective. Our graveside candles with batteries can cost around $200 on a yearly basis compared to a wax candle that can cost $400+ for the same amount of time. Please click here for the full analysis.
Q: Can I see the graveside candles at all time of the day?
A: The Smartlite Legacy™ and Tribute™ candles area true sentinel vigil candles. Their flames are clearly visible in daylight and stunningly beautiful at night. Sentinel® LED cemetery candles will survive when buried by snow, but because they do not generate heat, the snow must be cleared for the candle to be visible.
Q: What colors are they available?
A: Sentinel® candles are available in Red, Blue, White, and Green.
Q: What is the most popular color?
A: Five out of 10 candles sold are red.
Q: Are the candles strong enough to stay outside in any weather?
A: Yes the outdoor Sentinel® graveside flameless candles are manufactured from UV resistant polycarbonate material which is a durable weather resistant plastic material.
Q: Are the candles made in China or Japan?
A: Sentinel® candles are made in the USA, in Rockland County, NY
Q: What if someone steals it from the cemetery?
A: Theft has not been a problem, but we offer a few reliable security devices that do deter theft.
Q: Is it possible to personalize the candles?
A: Sentinel® candles include a sealed memorial chamber, which provides room for a small memorial object and for a personalized memorial label.
Q: Where are the candles mounted on the grave?
A: Sentinel® candles can be placed either in the ground or affixed to the base of the headstone. See the various anchor accessories available on our website.
Q: How are they fitted to their holder?
A: The base of a Sentinel® candle has a 7/16" threaded brass receptacle that accommodates all the fitting devices.
Q: How are the indoor candles different from the outdoor candles?
A: Both our indoor and outdoor candle utilize the same flame technology but our indoor candles are not weatherproof or UV protected.

We ship FEDEX Ground from Clifton, NJ and most of the tri-state area receives packages within one day. We ship Monday through Friday and whenever possible we ship orders out the same day or the next day of receipt.
